Estate Planning is bringing the future into the present so you can do something about it now

Thinking about one's own death or disability are topics most people tend to avoid as long as possible.  However, death and disability are two of the most important reasons for creating an estate plan to protect yourself and your loved ones.  A properly constructed estate plan will allow you to be able to secure your financial well-being by:

  • being in control of your assets and finances during your lifetime b
  • directing how your finances are to be handled upon disability
  • protecting yourself and your loved ones
  • arranging the transfer of assets in the event of your death
  • maximizing the amount of wealth that will pass to your intended beneficiaries.

Wills, Trusts and Durable Powers of Attorney are the tools that are utilized to handle finances and disposition of assets.  However, you also need to have in place advance directives that express your desire in certain circumstances where you are incapable of speaking for yourself. This is a plan for your medical well-being. If you are unable to make your health care decisions, if you have diminished or diminishing capacity, or if you become terminally you need the protection provided by a Health Care Proxy, a Pre-Need Designation of a Guardian, and a Living Will, respectively.
